  • The first step to learn Mongolian is to learn the alphabet. In modern times Mongolian uses the Cyrillic alphabet and most of your learning will be through this alphabet. They is also a traditional writing system that is written from top to bottom, but this isn’t in everyday use.
  • Mongolian is an agglutinative language; many grammatical morphemes are added onto words. Because of this, many Mongolian words are very long.
  • Mongolian uses postpositions instead of prepositions. 
  • Nouns have no gender and only optional number. However there are 8 different noun cases.
  • There are no definite articles. 
  •  Basic word order is Subject-Object-Verb. 
  • Verbs are very complex, but are not conjugated for person. There are 5 moods and several version of present and past tenses. Mongolian uses evidentiality , differentiating direct and indirect information.
